BDJ Elite Boxes: Heroine Make (Glam Light and Glam Medium)

BDJ Box Elite: Heroine Make

BDJ Box Elite: Heroine Make

Months ago, BDJ Box introduced a new addition to its boxes: the BDJ Elite Boxes, which featured Heroine Make, a Japanese makeup brand. There were 6 boxes to choose from, ranging from sweet to glam to fierce, each catering to a fair (light) or medium complexion. As Heroine Make is an Asian brand, it can be expected that these will cater to our yellow undertones.

The Elite Boxes

You can be sure that each box has mascara, eyebrow pencil, powder, BB cream, eyelash, eyelash glue, eyeliner, and sunblock, but the variants in each may differ. For myself, I got 2 elite boxes, the Glam Heroine Light and the Glam Heroine Medium.

My Elite Boxes

If you noticed, I got identical items in the form of the eyebrow pencil and eyelash glue. I didn’t mind. In fact, it was only the in eyebrow pencil shade and type of eyelash that I was more meticulous. Even though I don’t use falsies, it’s still good to have good ones when the times comes that I’d need or want to try one, right?

In the top left portion of the IG photo you will see the items that I was excited to try. I’ve already started using them actually, plus the BB creams as well. I’m in heaven with the mascaras and eyebrow pencil. The BB creams are so-so. Then again, my skin doesn’t really take well to BB creams so I’m looking for buyers if anyone’s interested. 🙂

The BB loose powder does great coverage! And the puff is just sublime in its softness and ability to glide on my skin. And the eyeliners! I never thought I’d be able to use such thin brushes and create thin and precise lines that hug my lashes. They’re a wonder, believe me.

There are still a handful I have yet to try though, mainly because I don’t normally use such things. So let me know if you’re interested in buying them from me. Just comment below and I’ll see what I can do to have them delivered to you. I’m trying to learn this blog sale thing as I go along.

Unboxing: BDJ September Box

After 6 months of wonderful boxes thanks to BDJ Box (March to August), I subscribed to 6 more boxes, my first for the latter being the September box. Now came the less wonderful and sad to say, disappointing of the BDJ boxes I’ve received so far. I hope this gets better.

It’s a big box, again, similar to the July BDJ Box, but unlike the latter, September’s BDJ Box is less appealing, in my opinion. More on this later.

My Thoughts

More to the point, I believe BDJ Box has recycled some of their products. If not recycled, they gave away those that they can no longer sell. I’m talking about Godiva Cleansing Kit and the Beach Hut Clear Spray. I know the cleansing kit are available to buy at the BDJ Box online store and although I did not receive any Beach Hut sunblock in my previous BDJ boxes, I have a friend who told me that she subscribed to BDJ Box before and got the same exact sunblock. So this must be in the months prior to March 2014.

There's a sticky smudge here, which tells me that this has been in storage for so long already.

There’s a sticky smudge here, which tells me that this has been in storage for so long already.

The nearness of the expiration date says a lot.

The nearness of the expiration date says a lot.

The same with the BDJ May box, this month’s box has a lot of common items and I predict that I won’t be using even half of what’s in the box.

Nos

Truth be told, I have long stopped using Cream Silk (and Sunsilk). I’ve used their combination ever since I can remember but I don’t have any inclination of trying it out anymore. I’ve become sensitive when it comes to the types of chemicals that are left on my hair. SLS or SLES are the major culprits why I’ve been having pimple breakouts on my face and back. It took a long while before I found a dermatologist who informed me of this (hence my eventual awareness to Human Nature).

I’m also a bit hesitant to try the Godiva Cleansing Kit. I’ve become accustomed to my facial care regimen (having tamed my pimple and prevented any adverse reaction) that I wouldn’t want to jinx it, so to speak. I am, however, a curious about Pond’s Dewy Rose Gel so I might try it, emphasis on the might. After all, the Pond’s facial wash line did nothing to alleviate my pimple problem before (it has SLS/SLES).

I already have one FS Gel Liner, in black. Although I got a brown one in the box, I’m not too keen on trying another one from this brand. I didn’t like the formula much. The free eyeliner brush is perfect, though.

Obviously, I will not be using the Beach Hut Clear Spray. I’ve never been lucky with sunblocks, any brand. I always end up with sunburn and pimple breakouts on my face. What do I do then under the sun? I’ve tried Human Nature’s Sunflower Beauty Oil. It’s a good why to tan without any burning, trust me. It even evened out my skin tone and corrected my tan lines. Then Human Nature’s Safe Block arrived and everything was history.

Yeses and Probablies

As I’ve already mentioned, I might try the Pond’s Dewy Rose Gel

Yellow is not really my color so I’m not as happy with the FS Single Eye Shadow that I got. But since it’s makeup, perhaps I can blend it with other colors to make it work.

I’ve already begun using one of the Jergens Moisture Pack, particularly the ultra healing lotion. I remember using an earlier formulation of this (or just an earlier packaging) and it helped during those times that I got sunburn.

Finally, the Dove Intensive Repair Daily Hair Vitamin. I’m very curious about this, more because of the capsules. I’ve never used one before even though there are so many brands available.

Recap

So that’s pretty much it. You can tell by how excited or disappointed I am about certain things by the length of my posts. If it’s in the middle, then you either won’t hear from me about them or you’d be reading a relatively short post.

I sure hope the next box is good. *crossing fingers*

What do you think?

Unboxing: BDJ July Box

Another month, another unboxing. But if you noticed, we skipped a month because there were some complications in July’s BDJ Box so it was shipped near the end of July instead of the usual first 2 weeks. Not an issue and I think the size of the box, which is bigger than the previous boxes, was supposed to make up for the delay.

BDJ July Box

The BDJ July Box is similar to the BDJ May Box in that the former is filled with assorted products and brands. Again, it’s not a purely makeup box but the products address skincare, hair care, as well as include some protective care.

Impressions

I’m not at all enthusiastic about July’s BDJ Box. Although the size of the box is bigger than usual, this did not mean that the contents are “bigger”. There are items inside the box that I don’t care to have or see in a beauty subscription box primarily because they are less than Php 100 and because I can just get them from any store, whether a department store, drug store, grocery, or sari-sari store.

As I’ve said in my previous entries, I like being surprised and this means getting to open a box filled with items that I haven’t tried before and perhaps not even think of trying if not for my subscription. Much too common items don’t have a place in beauty subscription boxes.

Still, the BDJ July Box has redeeming items that I didn’t know existed such as the Nivea Exfoliating Wipes, the Keratin Complex Travel Valet Care Kit, the Nivea In-Shower Skin Conditioner, and the Pink Sugar Fine Fragrance Mist.

There are also a couple of products I’m excited to use like the Nivea Anti-Perspirant Invisible Spray and the Celeteque Back Acne Spray. Indeed, I’ve already started using these 2 to see if they indeed work. I’m thinking of making a review on these 2 items plus the Nivea Exfoliating Wipes, which I’ve also begun using.

All in all, my enthusiasm for the BDJ July Box would have been great had it not been dampened by the all too common products that were included. I just don’t think they belong. However, as I said, the other items livened my spirits as I am as much in to skin care as I am in to makeup. Let’s see how well the products I’m now using will fare in delivering their promise.

UNBOXING: BDJ June Box

I look forward to the days when I come home and I find a box filled with goodies. I’m already at the second half of my BDJ Box subscription and I find myself preparing to subcribe to the next six months. It’s just wonderful how this subscription has not only opened my eyes to the world of makeup but also allowed me to give and share this little bits of joy through my blog.

When I saw from my Instagram feeds that the BDJ June Box is out, I felt that I had to run home to see if mine was already delivered. It wasn’t, because I’m far from their HQ. It was on a Friday, but I knew it will be at home over the weekend. The sad part is, I was bound for Cebu during that time. Whenever my cousins and I had a lull time at the hotel, I all I could think of was the BDJ June Box. It didn’t help that every time I tap “explore” on Instagram, there was an unboxing photo of the BDJ June Box.

BDJ Box first look

from fepot_crl14‘s Instagram

Imagine my anticipation upon coming home on Monday! It was first thing I looked for when I open our front door. Lo and behold! It was there! Yay! I just had to take pictures! Finding the time to collage the photos was a different matter. I was only able to upload it today and with much pride. ^_^

Without further adieu, here’s the BDJ June Box!

Someone said that Benefit is the best at making minis! I believe so. The samples are perfect considering that their collective value is above and beyond the price of the BDJ Box. You can do that math right here:

To be honest, I was a little hesitant about the tints. I’m not a fan and I’m afraid it will clog up my pores. Plus, I’m not sure how to use it at first. Thanks to bag_haven for helping me out on this one.

Bag_Haven

The BDJ June Box also included 2 products I already got from the March box: Porefessional PRO Balm and Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow. Finding them in my box didn’t increase my excitement much since repetition is not my cup of tea. I’d rather get new things (new experiences), which I may or may not like, than get the same thing again. But both items are welcome just the same. ^_^

In any case, since today’s posting, I’ve started using the Big Easy, Fake Up, and Benetint. I’m still using up my Porefessional PRO Balm and Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow from the March box so they don’t count.

Reviews for the Big Easy, Fake Up, and Benetint (and probably Lollitint) will be up in a week’s time so stay tuned! UPDATE: You can find my review of Benetint and Lollitint here.

Shu Uemura: OB Fresh Pore Clarifying Gentle Cleansing Oil

I have a tendency to hoard things that I like in general. Makeup and skincare products are among those things that I like collecting. Sometimes, I buy makeup and skincare products but it takes months before I actually open and get to use them. Because of this unflattering habit, I never get to finish the products that I have. I tend to save whatever’s left of the product to the point that it expires.

I expected as much with my BDJBox Luxe. However, as insisted by a Shu Uemura fan friend of mine, I started testing the products in the box. The first among which was the 450ml OB Fresh Pore Clarifying Gentle Cleansing Oil.

Fast Facts

450ml worth Php 4,095.00

Price: Php 4,095.00 / 450ml

How to use:
Take 3-4 pumps of cleansing oil onto the palms of hands.
Gently smooth over the face.
Wet face to emulsify cleansing oil.
Rinse thoroughly with water.

Product Description:
“The cleansing oil effectively removes makeup and impurities whil maintaining skin’s needed moisture level, perfect for combination to oily skin types. It is formulated with Sakura Complex to minimize pores by eliminating excess sebum, visibly smoothening the skin’s surface.”

Strength & Quality

I have only ever read one review for oil cleansers of Shu Uemura, particularly the High Performance Balancing Cleansing Oil Advanced Formula and I’ve only heard good things of Shu Uemura cleansing oils. Before delivering the box, the BDJ Box team asked if I wanted the High Performance or the Pore Clarifying. I replied that I have combination to oily skin that’s prone to acne. With this, they recommended that I use OB Fresh Pore Clarifying Gentle Cleansing Oil.

Before using the cleanser for the first time, I re-applied my makeup and made it thicker in order to see how strong the product is in removing makeup. I had on (see above picture) the following:

  • Pixy Ultimate Makeup Cake in Natural Buff
  • Human Nature Perfect Coverage Mineral Foundation in Caramel
  • Human Nature Perfect Glow Mineral Blush in Pacific Shimmer 03
  • Pixy Eye Shadow in Sparkling Gold 09
  • Pixy Volumizing Waterproof Mascara
  • Pixy Perfect Eyeliner
  • Human Nature Tinted Lip Balm in Island Kiss
  • Pixy Silky Fit Lipstick in Pinkish Peach 216
  • Human Nature Mineral Lip Gloss in Island Berry

The first time’s always an experience. For OB Fresh Pore Clarifying Gentle Cleansing Oil, I was delighted to see how effective it was in dissolving the makeup that I had on, despite it being “gentle”. The hardest to remove, the eyeliner and mascara, was effectively removed without need of too much rubbing that can damage the eyes and cause wrinkles. This was a surprise to me because the consistency of the cleansing oil was not similar to the cleansing oil I normally use. OB Fresh Pore Clarifying was more fluid like water than oily. Despite this seemingly diluted oil, however, one pump was all I needed to remove my makeup.

I used the product the same way I used my go-to cleansing oil, that is, I massage one pump of the oil onto my face gently and then wipe the same with tissue. Normally, I had to reapply some cleansing oil on the eye area to get rid of the mascara and eyeliner but with Shu Uemura’s cleansing oil, one pump and tissue wiping were enough to remove the makeup.

I have yet to follow the instructions above because I have this fear that not wiping oil out of my face, especially one mixed with makeup, will only lead to acne breakouts. So I tend to wipe it off with tissue and then wash my face with facial wash. I can’t imagine going to bed with oil, though emulsified (whatever the effect of this would be), on my face. The first time I tried following the instructions up to the emulsification part, my eye makeup got into my eyes and it hurt! I think it would take a while before I would try the instructions again.

As to the promise of minimizing the pores, I have yet to discover and verify this. So far, after the first use of the product, I noticed that my skin was silkier.  Even after washing my face with facial wash, the silky feeling was still there. This is not a bad thing, I should think. But it’s different from what’s normally felt every time I wash my face.

Here’s another before and after shot of using OB Fresh Pore Clarifying Gentle Cleansing Oil.

Products: eye shadow (e.l.f.) eye liner (Pixy Perfect Eyeliner) mascara (Pixy Waterproof Volumizing Mascara and Maybelline The Magnum Volum' Express)

Products:
eye brows (e.l.f.); eye shadow (e.l.f.); eye liner (Pixy Perfect Eyeliner)
mascara (Pixy Waterproof Volumizing Mascara and Maybelline The Magnum Volum’ Express)

Value

Definitely, the price range of Shu Uemura products are way up there. I can only say that this is justified by the quality of their products, although I have only used the OB Fresh Pore Clarifying Gentle Cleansing Oil, OB UV Under Base Brightening Mousse, The LightBulb Fluid Foundation, and Face Powder Sheer upon writing this post. But based on the review and good feedback I got from my friends, the cleansing oils of Shu Uemura are worth the price tag. I’d recommend, for the first timers, to try out the travel size or even sample pack, if available, in order to see if the cleansing oil is a match for you.

Verdict: 9/10

Shu Uemura’s OB Fresh Pore Clarifying Gentle Cleansing Oil is a good product to have on hand, especially for us ladies who adore makeup. It’s highly effective at removing makeup, no matter how thick it may be, and it’s light on the skin. I didn’t experience any acne breakout after days of using the cleansing oil. For those prone with oily skin that’s prone to acne, OB Fresh Pore Clarifying Gentle Cleansing Oil is the recommended cleansing oil of Shu Uemura. The fact that the packaging for this particular cleansing oil is pink also doesn’t hurt.
