REVIEW: Watsons Camellia Callus Cell Vitamin F Facial Mask

It was a whole day of pampering for me last weekend. I spent the whole day at the salon giving my hair and nails much love. But I didn’t stop there. When I got home, before finally turning in, I tried Watsons Camellia Callus Cell Vitamin F Facial Mask. It was something I bought during one of my kikay moods and at last got around to trying.

Of the masks I’ve tried, I like this product best, which kind of surprised me since it’s cheaper than most of its counter parts. If you’re on a budget or just beginning to learn about facial masks, this brand would probably be your best bet.

From the moment I opened the package, I smelled flowers and was already hooked. It was a wonderful scent and immediately made me relax when I finally put the mask on. I dreaded the end of the 20 minutes when I had to remove the mask. I just can’t get enough of the flowers!

If the scent was relaxing, the application was perplexing, unfortunately. As with Dermal’s Collagen Mask I tried previously, unfolding the mask was quite a challenge. I’ve tried a few masks between Dermal’s and the current one, but never got the hang of unfolding the masks. I hope they can invent a better way for this.

So as with this one, I was deathly afraid of tearing it accidentally at the edges. Thankfully, it survived. The sad part, though, was that a lot of the essence transferred to my hands, which I could not massage into my face at the time.

After surmounting this challenge, it was easy. Just position it first around the eyes, and you can easily smooth it outwards from there. Make sure to push out any bubbles.

What to expect

Expect a forehead gap!

Expect a cooling sensation where the essence has been applied. This was quite relaxing in my opinion and which is good, especially for those with visible pores.

If you have a wide forehead, like me, expect about an inch of forehead exposure. I’ve had this problem with past masks so it was already something that I expected. It was still disappointing though.

If you use this before bed time, expect soft skin the next day. I just loved this! My skin didn’t even feel the least bit itchy with this product. A good sign! So, that’s a check on the claims department.

Verdict: 9/10

As I said, this one has become my favorite so far. You will fall in love with the scent of flowers, relax under the cool mask, and wake up with soft, supple skin the next day. Who wouldn’t want that?

Will I buy this again? Without a doubt. The price is also easy on the wallet and so it won’t feel like you’re splurging if you ever want to stick to the 2-3 times a week regimen.

What’s your favorite facial mask?

REVIEW: Dermal’s Vegetable Placenta Collagen Mask

After a long week of calls, meetings, hearings, reports, and irritations, I find myself looking to my BDJ Box for comfort. I feel like my face is showing my stress and it needs to be revitalized. Opening my BDJ May Box, I took out one of the facial masks inside—Dermal’s Vegetable Placenta Collagen Essence Mask—and tried it out.

It’s my first time to use a facial mask on my own. My prior experience with masks applied by some other people was that they’re all cool and calming. Maybe because I was on my own in applying the mask that I got stressed out with Dermal’s Vegetable Placenta Collagen Essence Mask.

I found the instructions at the back of the package lacking. Here’s what the How to use says:

  1. Take out the mask sheet from the pack and unfold it.
  2. First, gently apply the mask sheet around your eye part and then fit your face contours.
  3. Leave on for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Peel off the mask sheet and tab the remaining collagen essence over your face until it completely absorbs to your skin.

It didn’t say what time of day I should use it, the frequency, and what to do before and after use. Normally, when doing my product reviews, I type my first draft during or immediately after use. Since this product requires itself to be adhered to the face for 15-20 minutes, I started drafting this post.

10 minutes into my usage of the mask and searching the internet for additional information to add to this post, I find out that I should have applied toner first on my face before putting on the mask. I also found out that I should be lying down, waiting for the 15 minutes to finish before removing the mask. I was sitting up the whole time, typing this post.

Even though there may not be any consequence in not having done the foregoing, the O.C. in me feels as though I did something wrong and because of this, I won’t be getting the full benefit that the product promised.

So for those who plan to use any Dermal mask, please note the following:

  • Use the product after your have washed your face and applied face toner.
  • Make sure you are lying down while the mask is in place.
  • The product is best used at night.
  • After removing the mask, massage the extract into the skin for easy absorption. Do not wash your face.

As it was my first time, I found removing Dermal’s Vegetable Placenta Collagen Essence Mask from the package and unfolding it a chore. I was afraid of nicking the mask with my nails or dropping it to the floor. It was slippery and didn’t quite agree to being unfolded. I thought it would dry up by the time I’m able to put it on my face.

But pressing it around the eyes first is really the best way. You wouldn’t want the extract stinging your eyes. So after doing this, it was fairly easy to press the rest of the mask around my face. It didn’t quite reach the hairline above my forehead though. There was a good one inch of my forehead exposed.

After the 15 minutes were up, I removed the mask. It was still a bit damp but I was afraid of prolonging the mask on my face. My skin already felt tingly.

After removing, I dutifully massaged the remaining extract throughout my face, especially the part of my forehead and neck not reached by the mask. The massaging portion was what soothed me.

Other than the struggle of unfolding the mask, everything was a breeze.

I forget what the flower shown in the package is called (the name’s not in the package either) but I believe the scent of the mask is that of the flower in the package. It was on the citrus side. Not as relaxing as lavender but it was refreshing.

The scent was stronger when I removed the mask and massaged my face. I think the longer it stays on the skin and gets absorbed, that’s when the scent fully comes out. How this happens, I don’t know. Maybe through evaporation? (I was never a science whiz >.<)

Verdict: 7/10

I haven’t many experience with facial masks nor am I enthusiastic about them. If not done at a skin clinic, I find that using them can be a chore. Especially after learning that I should’ve been lying down at the time. There’s no option to multitask in a way.

However, my experience with Dermal’s Vegetable Placenta Collagen Essence wasn’t unpleasant. For mask lovers, Dermal could be a good option although I can’t vouch for it.

After an hour of usage, my eyebrows and parts of my face started to get itchy (though not severely so), perhaps because it’s new to my skin. But for those with sensitive skin, you might want to try just one mask or none at all if you can help it. There may be ingredients in it that can irritate your skin.

As for me, I don’t think I’ll spend money on this. Like I said, I’m not a fan of facial masks. Somewhere out there, there might be the perfect facial mask for me. It’s just not this one.
