Music Mondays: Anaconda (Nicki Minaj)

As promised in yesterday’s post, today I’m featuring Nicki Minaj’s Anaconda. Apparently, I first heard this, a portion of the song from my boyfriend singing “My anaconda don’t! My anaconda don’t! My anaconda don’t want none I guess you got buns, hun!” It just sounded strange and he didn’t elaborate so I left it at that. Weeks later, I heard the verse and the whole song over the radio. Oh! So that’s what it is!

I like the melody. It’s catchy, good to dance to, walk/jog to, and the chorus part is fine. Other than that, I’d like to remain silent. Suffice it to say, I won’t be linking the video the here. Instead, I foraged the YouTube and found three choreography that I really liked that featured Anaconda. I hope you like them as well.

The first is by Jasmine Meakin (a.k.a. Mega Jam)

This next one is by Emily Sasson

The last is by Jeffrey Caluag and Dimitri Mendez. I especially like the speed of their movement here and first thought that it was on fast forward. Haha! The quality is not as good but if you want the better quality but longer, you can find it here.

Music Mondays: Love Runs Out (One Republic)

Today’s featured song is among my list of music that entices me to get up from where I’m sitting or lying down and just dance like no one’s watching. Yep! And it surprised me, to think that I haven’t featured it yet until yesterday when it played on my Spotify (Power Walk playlist) while I was on the treadmill and I just had to draft today’s Music Monday.

I’ve heard it on the radio, seen it in danced in So You Think You Can Dance Season 11 (which was a spectacular choreography by SYTYCD Season 2 runner-up Travis Wall), and then during my power walk yesterday. I believe these are enough to propel me to feature it today.

Like last week’s Music Monday, I’m posting 2 videos–the official music video and the dance from SYTYCD Season 11 as a bonus.

Love Runs Out by One Republic

I love the old lady in this video, don’t you?

What’s your Music Monday?

A dream is a wish your heart makes

I have so many dreams, so many likes, that I can’t even begin to focus on just one to fulfill. If you’ve already combed through my blog, you’d know a few of them already. Since then, my dreams have only grown and I sort of feel that I’m getting left behind.

I’d like to have a coffee shop of my own. I’d like to have a studio of my own to do what I love–dance, pole, Zumba, yoga, etc. I’d like to be a certified Zumba instructor. I’d like to be a yoga teacher. I’d like to run a second hand bookstore. And I also want to travel the world and meet new people. These are just a few of those things and sometimes, I think I’m looking at a map with tangled roads that don’t seem to go anywhere.

Have you ever had that feeling of not knowing what to do? You’re at point A and you want to get to point B but you don’t know how? And what about wanting to get from point A to points B, C, D, etc. all at once?

For now, I’m taking baby steps, have been taking them quite a lot lately. And I know I still have hundreds, if not thousands or millions, of steps to take on to fulfill these dreams. Possibly I’ll have to give up on some or alter them if it’s permitted. After all…

I am never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream. ~ C.S. Lewis

Music Mondays: Bang Bang (Jessie J, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj)

What do you get when you put together edgy, sweet, and spicy? You’d get one hell of a powerhouse song. I’ve been itching to feature this song by Jessie J, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj the first time I heard it on the radio. I always find myself breathless after the song for each artist has her own unique vocals. The last time I felt this excited was listening to Lady Marmalade by Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya, and Pink, also a powerhouse song.

A note about the music video, I heard that they recorded the song separately and them spliced together. As for the music video, I think it’s the same and it’s only at the last portion that they got all three artists together. If I got this info wrong, please correct me so I can edit this post immediately. 🙂 Thank you!

As an added bonus, because I really love this song and it’d be an insult not to find a good dance routine for it, here’s one from my favorite show, So You Think You Can Dance (Season 11).

What about you? What’s your Music Monday?

Music Mondays: Chandelier (Sia)

Have you ever encountered something beautiful and disturbing at the same time so much so that you can’t figure out whether it’s disturbingly beautiful or beautifully disturbing? I think this one will be a good example. It’s the official music video of today’s Music Monday, Chandelier by Sia.

This song was already in my list of songs to feature in Music Mondays, having heard and loved it in Spotify. I just watched the music video after seeing All About That Bass and where Meghan Trainor’s song left me feeling happy and dance-y, this one left me speechless.

First, I was disturbed by the first scene because I thought it Sia by the door frame in a skin tone outfit (the effect was as if she was not wearing anything). Then it turned out that it was a girl in the outfit and I was disturbed all the more. Then the girl started dancing the whole song (contemporary) and it was beautiful and disturbing because she acted crazy but her movements were beautiful! The close ups are what got to me because the girl’s not only a dancer but an actress as well, especially the final scene where I kept thinking that something might pop in the video to scare me. >.<

Well, without giving out too much of the music video, because it’s something worth watching, here’s Sia’s Chandelier.

UPDATE: I just found out today that within weeks from posting this, there was a video of the Chandelier danced by Maddie Ziegler (the girl in the OMV) and by none other than, Allison Holker (my favorite in SYTYCD). If there is one dancer who can do crazy as much as Maddie, that’d be Allison. It’s amazing! (and well, disturbing). 😉
