Kawaii Must-Haves: Unboxing BDJ January-February Exclusive Box

Just when I began unboxing january-february kawaii must haves BDJ box exclusiveworrying whether my the BDJ box for January 2015 got lost during delivery, it turned out that for the first two months of 2015, BDJ would combine the two boxes into one exclusive box.

First thing I thought upon realizing this was: Oh no! I think I just wasted my money! I dislike paying for two things and then receive just one, which was my sentiment at the time. But considering the actual price of the items inside, the box is worth more than four boxes.

Thoughts

Price

The box is definitely more than I bargained for. Each BDJ box is worth Php 580, two boxes being Php 1,160. The total amount of the items in the January to February box is, as you may have already computed, Php 2,764. Since I’m the type to always make such computations, having a combined box isn’t such bad of a deal.

The consequence of this, however, is that the delivery becomes unpredictable. For the duration of my subscription to BDJ beauty boxes, this is the first time that they have combined two boxes. I do hope that they wouldn’t make this a habit.

Size

Another good thing about this box, which is almost always that case with BDJ boxes, is that all items are in full sizes. There are no deluxe or sample packs as what most beauty subscription boxes often fill their boxes with. So if I happen to like a product, then I’d have full use of it. On the flip size, if I don’t like a product, then I’d have to the remaining of the full size to either finish off or giveaway/sell.

Contents

When it comes to the items themselves, I have mixed feelings. There are repeat items such as the Pixy Two Way Cake Fit and Blush On, which I got in last year’s BDJ April Box. There’s also the Sunkiller Perfect Strong A, which I got in one of the two BDJ Elite Boxes I bought in July.

As for the Pixy Eye Shadow, although this is a different shade from last year’s, I already have this particular shade having one the Stick It To Win It promo. I have no complaints for this one. I love this particular shade!

For the rest of the items… I’m especially excited with the Bifesta Cleansing Lotion Bright Up. Lately, I’ve been testing different makeup removers and this one I’ve always been curious about.

For the Lucido-L products, I’m not sure if I’ll use them as I have digitally permed (now just wavy) hair and these are for straight hair.

Lastly, with the Pixy Coverlast, I’m neither disappointed nor excited. My skin’s losing its oiliness lately, something I’m not too happy about, so I may or may not try it out. We’ll see.

All in all. I’m not entirely happy. Only the cleansing oil got me excited. I think it shows considering that it took me this long (weeks) before I really opened up the package for an unboxing. I do hope the March box will be an improvement in the sense that there’d be no repeat items.

If you’re interested for a review of any of the above items, just give me a shout out in the comments below so I can prioritize them. I hope you’re not as disappointed as I am when you got yours.

UNBOXING: BDJ December Box

From a Benefit exclusive box last November to this December’s Cover Girl exclusive box, Santa must have listed all BDJ Bellas under “nice” this year. Not only that, all products this month are full sized products, the prices of which total to more than 4x the price of a BDJ Box! Yey!

BDJ December Box 2014

30ml TruBlend Liquid Makeup worth Php 645
11g TruBlend Pressed Powder worth Php 425
3g Cheekers Blush worth Php 395
4.6g Smoky Shadow Blast worth Php 525
13.1ml LashBlast Fusion Water Resistant Mascara worth Php 595

An Eye for an Eye

As always, I’m eyeing the mascara for I am truly an eye makeup fan, especially of mascaras. I just love trying out the different brush types created by makeup manufacturers.

It’s also my first time to own an eye shadow stick so I can’t wait to try the Smoky Shadow Blast. It’s a double ended stick, giving it a multipurpose quality.

Cheek Matte

Cheekers Cover Girl Powder Blush

The header is actually a joke. You know, checkmate but instead, cheek (for the blush) and matte (for the foundation and powder). Get it? 🙂 Never mind. It’s the thought that counts.

Anyway, I love barely there blushes, as if I just naturally have rosy cheeks even though there’s a fat chance of me having them naturally. That’s why I’m always open to trying out different blushes–whether cheek tint or stain, powder, cream, stick, etc. The Cheekers Blush I got is rose silk and promises to give an “easy and natural rosy silk flush”. According to the product brochure, the blush is currently BDJ Box exclusive and will only be available in the market by in February 2015. Yey for first dibs!

For the powder and foundation, I got no. 2 shades, which is a relief. Meaning, they should be compatible with each other. Whether the shade will be compatible with my skin tone is yet to be seen so I look forward to that. I’m still in search of the perfect liquid foundation that’s best for my skin.

Best Beautiful You!

There you have it. Five promising products from Cover Girl c/o BDJ Box. I wonder if this will make me look like Katy Perry as in the cover of their product brochure. 😉

Unboxing: BDJ July Box

Another month, another unboxing. But if you noticed, we skipped a month because there were some complications in July’s BDJ Box so it was shipped near the end of July instead of the usual first 2 weeks. Not an issue and I think the size of the box, which is bigger than the previous boxes, was supposed to make up for the delay.

BDJ July Box

The BDJ July Box is similar to the BDJ May Box in that the former is filled with assorted products and brands. Again, it’s not a purely makeup box but the products address skincare, hair care, as well as include some protective care.

July Box contents
6g Enchanted Eyeshadow Palette (Php 199)

10ml Nivea In-Shower Skin Conditioner (100ml @ Php 109)

Impressions

I’m not at all enthusiastic about July’s BDJ Box. Although the size of the box is bigger than usual, this did not mean that the contents are “bigger”. There are items inside the box that I don’t care to have or see in a beauty subscription box primarily because they are less than Php 100 and because I can just get them from any store, whether a department store, drug store, grocery, or sari-sari store.

As I’ve said in my previous entries, I like being surprised and this means getting to open a box filled with items that I haven’t tried before and perhaps not even think of trying if not for my subscription. Much too common items don’t have a place in beauty subscription boxes.

Still, the BDJ July Box has redeeming items that I didn’t know existed such as the Nivea Exfoliating Wipes, the Keratin Complex Travel Valet Care Kit, the Nivea In-Shower Skin Conditioner, and the Pink Sugar Fine Fragrance Mist.

There are also a couple of products I’m excited to use like the Nivea Anti-Perspirant Invisible Spray and the Celeteque Back Acne Spray. Indeed, I’ve already started using these 2 to see if they indeed work. I’m thinking of making a review on these 2 items plus the Nivea Exfoliating Wipes, which I’ve also begun using.

All in all, my enthusiasm for the BDJ July Box would have been great had it not been dampened by the all too common products that were included. I just don’t think they belong. However, as I said, the other items livened my spirits as I am as much in to skin care as I am in to makeup. Let’s see how well the products I’m now using will fare in delivering their promise.

Review: Benetint and Lollitint

I’m not really a fan of tints. I don’t get the need to stain your lips red or with any other color. I also find it confusing in terms of application–do I apply the tint first or the foundation?

The BDJ June Box gave me the chance to get re-acquainted with tints, particularly Benefit’s Benetint and Lollitint. I’ve tried tints in the past but I wasn’t feeling them.

Swatches Tint

My skin ate up Benetint before I could even take a photo of it or even blend it.

tint on lips

Apologies for the suck-y resolution. I couldn’t find my camera at the time and I don’t know how to take a photo of my lips on my own.

finger stain

Yeah, it stains and they take a long time to fade so apply carefully on the cheeks if you don’t want to go overboard.

Impressions

I love them now. But if you had asked me about it the first few times that I used it, I would have said “No! It stains my fingers and I’m not even sure if there’s any difference if I use it or not. Plus, my cheeks itched!”. Still, I went through testing, particularly Benetint, for more than 7 days and tried out different makeup combinations with it and experimented on how I applied it. Turns, that was the solution.

Most people apply tints after their foundation, whether it’s liquid or powder foundation or BB cream. I did the same but it didn’t work. My cheeks itched. I tried different types of foundations and even BB cream. With liquid foundation, the foundation ate up the tint before I could have blended it. With powder foundation, the tint erased the foundation since the tint was liquid. I tried the Benefit Big Easy BB with Benetint and Lollitint as well, but was the same result with the powder foundation.

I was ready to give/sell my tints away if it were not for an upcoming sports fest I was participating in. I wanted to have color on my face without it seeming like I wore makeup on a sports event where I’ll be sweating. I also didn’t want to leave my face bare because I always look like a ghost after every workout (I don’t know where all the blood in my head goes to at such time). So I applied the most minimal of makeups. I applied the usual Benefit Porefessional (never leave home without it) and then applied Benetint on my cheeks. I then applied my powder foundation on top of the tint. On my lips, I dabbed Benetint on top of a clear lip balm. Then off I went to sweat!

Hooray! It was a success! I ran to the nearest mirror after one practice round and was pleased with the result. I looked naturally flushed with that “workout glow”. I didn’t look like a ghost. I guess for my skin type (sensitive, combination to oily skin with visible pores), this sequence is better: tint before foundation. And if I wanted to prolong the tint, then it’s primer, tint, then foundation. So even if I fail to retouch my makeup, I still have red/pinkish cheeks that give me that fresh look. 😉

Verdict: 9/10

I love Benetint especially. Lollitint, not so much because it’s more suited to light to fair skin color. I’m fair to morena.

Pros: lasts long (longer with primer), has a nice scent (for Benetint), dual purpose (for cheek and lips), nice build up of color

Cons: expensive, blending can be tricky, stains the fingers, has chemicals/parabens

Will I buy this? Of course! In fact, I love it so much that I went ahead and bought a full-sized Benetint before I finished my sample of Benetint.

I feel that this will be my go to lip/cheek product from now on, especially when I workout. 🙂 It also doesn’t hurt that I have the sample size Benetint, which I can just refill from the full-sized one, making it extra travel friendly.

UNBOXING: BDJ June Box

I look forward to the days when I come home and I find a box filled with goodies. I’m already at the second half of my BDJ Box subscription and I find myself preparing to subcribe to the next six months. It’s just wonderful how this subscription has not only opened my eyes to the world of makeup but also allowed me to give and share this little bits of joy through my blog.

When I saw from my Instagram feeds that the BDJ June Box is out, I felt that I had to run home to see if mine was already delivered. It wasn’t, because I’m far from their HQ. It was on a Friday, but I knew it will be at home over the weekend. The sad part is, I was bound for Cebu during that time. Whenever my cousins and I had a lull time at the hotel, I all I could think of was the BDJ June Box. It didn’t help that every time I tap “explore” on Instagram, there was an unboxing photo of the BDJ June Box.

BDJ Box first look

from fepot_crl14‘s Instagram

Imagine my anticipation upon coming home on Monday! It was first thing I looked for when I open our front door. Lo and behold! It was there! Yay! I just had to take pictures! Finding the time to collage the photos was a different matter. I was only able to upload it today and with much pride. ^_^

Without further adieu, here’s the BDJ June Box!

Someone said that Benefit is the best at making minis! I believe so. The samples are perfect considering that their collective value is above and beyond the price of the BDJ Box. You can do that math right here:

A whole lot of love!

Impressions

To be honest, I was a little hesitant about the tints. I’m not a fan and I’m afraid it will clog up my pores. Plus, I’m not sure how to use it at first. Thanks to bag_haven for helping me out on this one.

Bag_Haven

The BDJ June Box also included 2 products I already got from the March box: Porefessional PRO Balm and Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow. Finding them in my box didn’t increase my excitement much since repetition is not my cup of tea. I’d rather get new things (new experiences), which I may or may not like, than get the same thing again. But both items are welcome just the same. ^_^

In any case, since today’s posting, I’ve started using the Big Easy, Fake Up, and Benetint. I’m still using up my Porefessional PRO Balm and Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow from the March box so they don’t count.

Reviews for the Big Easy, Fake Up, and Benetint (and probably Lollitint) will be up in a week’s time so stay tuned! UPDATE: You can find my review of Benetint and Lollitint here.
