Music Mondays: Broken Ones (Jacquie Lee)

Let your friends know

Hello everyone! It’s that day of the week again. This week’s Music Mondays is thanks to a plane ride home and to Spotify’s many playlists that can cater to whatever mood you’re in. It’s Broken Ones by Jacquie Lee, one of the runners up in The Voice, Season 5.

When I first saw the title, I had thought whether this is related to the song The Broken Ones but as it turns out, they are by different artists and released years apart. I had The Broken Ones in my list for Music Mondays but there must have been a reason why I skipped it.

Broken Ones by Jacquie Lee

What I love about this song? It pierces the heart like a swiftly thrown dagger sure of its target. You will find these in the lyrics: “We wear a smile to hide that we’ve been hurt before” and “We all know how it feels to be forgotten for a while”. And with such a strong and powerful voice carrying this message, who wouldn’t be drawn to and hit by it?

The catch is, it may seem negative and emotional but it’s more empowering than what it appears to be. If you didn’t get that from the song, you may get that from the video, which I love by the way—an expression of the self through art: dance, writing, painting, music.
